Electric vs Wood-Burning Sauna Heater

One flips on from your phone; the other is a fire you tend. Both make great heat, they suit different setups.

The heat itself is similar. The difference is everything around it: how you light it, what it costs to install, and where you can put it.

Electric

Push a button (or an app) and walk away; the room is ready in 30–45 minutes and holds a set temperature exactly. The cost is electrical: a dedicated 240V circuit and an electrician. Wood-burning

No electrical bill and, for many, the whole point: the crackle, the ritual, real heat off a fire. The trade-offs are a chimney and clearances, fuel to store and tend, no thermostat, and fire-safety rules that usually mean outdoors only. Install is carpentry and flashing rather than an electrician.

Is an electric or wood sauna heater better?

Neither is universally better. Electric gives thermostat control, fast pre-heat and easy indoor install; wood-burning needs no electricity and gives ritual heat but requires a chimney, clearances and usually an outdoor location.

Rarely, it needs a proper chimney, clearances and fire-safety compliance, so most wood-fired saunas are outdoors. Indoor rooms almost always use electric heaters.
